I enjoy traveling the world to experience different culture that inspire the different cooking methods, textures and recipes.
This was my first experience eating out of a chef's home as a result of Plate Culture. It's a great idea and I'm glad that this new experience was a positive one, which will lead to a series of more trying . Chef Alan's place was intimate and cozy, clean and pleasant, and it was nice to be able to watch him (passively) prepare the meal in his own home for us,and yet turn out some professionally presented food of fresh, good quality, and it tasted pretty yummy! It was very enjoyable chatting with my friends and also with chef Alan! I felt that the price charged was reasonable for what was served. Also good to know that Alan has a full-time career and does this purely out of enjoyment; you can feel it when the chef puts his/her heart into the cooking.
Alan was born and grew up in UK. Combining this with his passion for cooking you get a real British cuisine feast! All the dishes were delightful and absolutely yummy. Especially enjoyed mushroom soup which was the best I have ever had! Also sausages with mashed potatoes and the improvised starter with scallops and mango dressing was very delicious. Alan is great host and it is super nice chatting with him about his trips and culinary experiences. The place is small (as all HK flats) but cozy with amazing views to the skyscrapers and mountains. I would recommend this experience to small groups of friends who miss some great British food and culture share. Cheers Alan!
