About the kitchen

Chef Don's food is a celebration of the seasons. Local farms and quality ingredients inspire the customized menus. His cooking style can simply be described as farm to table with an emphasis on capturing the peak of the season through simple yet creative techniques. In Don's food, you will taste the influence of his culinary history; from the Southern United States to Korean and French cuisine thoughtfully executed throughout each carefully crafted course.

While 80% of his menu is locally sourced from a thriving community of folks who take great pride in the products they grow, the rest of his ingredients are staple items and fine foods that are just too good to leave out. Though Don's expertise is in fine dining and artful plating, his love of food stems from bringing people together, family-style, and ensuring everyone leaves with a full belly and a big smile.

  1. Bio

    Chef Don's influences begin with his Chinese grandmother's home cooking and extend to renowned and Michelin-starred fine dining chefs in the Southern United States and Hong Kong. While living on Jeju Island, South Korea, Chef Don learned the art of kimchi and soy sauce making. This inspiration can be found in many of the dishes prepared using fermentation and preservation techniques. While Chef Don's food isn't easily categorized, locally produced, seasonal ingredients and an unrelenting passion define his menus. Simply put, he'd humbly describe it as "just good food."

    When Chef Don and his wife aren't cooking, they are likely out in nature, brewing makgeolli (rice wine) or kombucha, or continuing their never-ending hunt to find the best chef-driven, local food in new places. Look forward to sharing with you soon!

My first plate culture but one of the top 3 private dining experiences I've had in my 3 years in Hong Kong. Food was exquisite and obviously well thought out by Donn. The timing food was sent out was perfect. Donn and his friend who helped out made the experience very enjoyable. The space was a unexpectedly spacious and done up well!

Every course was a delight, combining elegant presentation with truly delicious taste (the hanger steak was a particular favorite). Don and Lauren did a great job hosting my wife's birthday dinner. Dinner was excellent -- creative menu, delicious food, and bog portions. Our party included a trained chef and restaurant owner as well as quite a few foodies, and everyone was very impressed with the food. The ambience and service were terrific too. I'd recommend CCYY to anyone looking for a unique and memorable private kitchen experience.

We had an excellent time! Not only was the food spectacular, the atmosphere they have created in their furnishings, decorations and attention to detail was amazing. We were made to feel instantly welcome and enjoyed the range of food that Don was able to prepare for us based on his living in various countries and approach to buying what is actually in season for HK.
Six of us dined here and the communication throughout the organization was great. There was not a single complaint / room for improvement area from any one of the group. Given how varied our tastes are, I think this is a pretty impressive achievement.

A well decorated place with warm chef and hostess. The food is well thought western Korean fusion with local ingredients. Everyone had a nice time and go home with a full belly!

Everything from the food to ambiance were just exquisite. Every dish was prepared with a unique twist with high quality ingredients, the end product was presented beautifully and the taste was simply amazing. Chef Don and Lauren were easy going and the evening was just an overall great experience.

The location was very convenient and easy to find, the venue was very spacious, we had 7 people, but i think even 12 fits very comfortably. Highly recommend it and will absolutely come back again.

Don and Lauren were fantastic hosts. They really made you feel welcomed into their private kitchen. Their passion for food especially locally produced vegetables and high quality ingredients were easily apparent and genuine. The style of cooking is Southern USA fine dining although on this particular day we had Korean food with a twist. Almost all the vegetables were locally sourced, some even grown onsite in tiny growing spaces. The pork was well seasoned and home made kimchee delicious. The atmosphere of the kitchen and dining area was unique in that it is very spacious and has a calming and green environment. I cannot recommend this place enough!

We really loved dining at ChomChomYomYom! Lauren and Don were super nice and friendly. They explained each dish to us beforehand and told us where the vegetables/ fruit/ meat were from; the ingredients were mainly sourced from local farms in HK. Food tasted incredibly fresh; I haven't had such fresh vegetables and fruit for a while. :) I was so full after the meal but still felt healthy which was a great feeling. Lauren and Don were so nice and accommodating throughout the whole process. The dining space was brightly lit, nicely decorated and spacious. I would definitely recommend it to my friends!
