My name is Shamini, a working mom to 2 beautiful children. I've been always very passionate about food and cooking since tender age. I am Malaysian born and I've moved around within the country during young age so I picked up local favorites from all the states we stayed, to name a few; Penang, East Coast - Kuantan, Ipoh and now Kl. As part of my work, I've traveled around Asia Pacific, and picked up many food-related skills, both eating and cooking, which I would love to share with everyone! I am recognized for my abilities in the fusion and savory kitchen, and value cooking with locally-sourced ingredients.
My culinary principal is to create a variety of appealing and scrumptious vegetarian dishes that not only does good to your body, but also creates a healthy mind! I've gotten many amazing reviews from my guests that has come so far. So why wait? :)
Sham is very friendly (love her adorable kids too) and she has cooked us a very delicious spread with each dish full and rich with flavours.loved it especially the brinjal.the only thing that we wished was if plate culture can create somein which is more private for some occasions where people may want their own special moment with great food like this:).otherwise, for a first experience like mine,it was fantastic.would definitely want more!
Sham is such a lovely and wonderful chef and host. Delicious food! She even took the time to explain the dishes, detail the ingredients , etc. Very personal. Keep it up. Would recommend it to my friends.
Chef Shamini was extremely accommodating to all the guests that had come. Food was absolutely brilliant with a unique touch of tradition and culture. Took vegetarianism to a whole new level. Even non-veges would be very impressed with the spread and the flavors. No regrets assured!
I enjoyed my meal, it was delicious, and Shamini's explanation of the values to the body of eating with your hands was interesting. The company (other guests) were also very good company with lots of interesting table talk. A lovely evening. Thank you.
The food was simple yet alluring. It was tastefully presented and wonderfully flavorful. The appetizers were fried but yet not at all oily. The mains were Chapatis with biryani were well made. The dessert was especially delightful, particularly the bubur chacha. All in all a great experience. Sham as host was warm and informative.
Shamini makes the best biryani! Absolutely the best biryani in the world! This was my first time as a dinner guest of Shamini's, though my second time eating her food – I took one of her cooking classes a few months ago where we ate everything we and Shamini made using her recipes.
I just returned from a trip to Nepal a couple of days ago where I had biryani at three different Kathmandu restaurants – one came close to being as good as Shamini's; Green Organic Cafe and Farmers Bar in Thamel, has the second best biryani in the world if you're ever in the area. And, just yesterday, I dined at popular Indian restaurant Moghul Mahal in Brickfields, KL, which, we were told, was very popular with South Asians. So we were quite surprised at the tasteless and average quality of our food at Moghul, including my dry, lukewarm biryani.
All of this just reconfirms to me that Shamini makes the best biryani and Indian and South Asian food overall. She's a master at flavors and spices. Her food is delicious and hosting superb. Looking forward to my next dinner at hers.
The food is not only healthy and vegetarian, every ingredients used were of good quality and the food is equally/or more tasty than outside food where unhealthy and cheap ingredients are used. Really can't wait to visit again :)
It was my first and a truly memorable PlateCulture experience. Shamini's passion and love for cooking and food translated into the whole dining experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are looking for a good vegetarian food and/or to learn more about Indian cuisine, this is for you!
Everything about the evening was lovely - from the wonderful food to the host's hospitality. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to try an overall satisfying, homey and filling dining experience.
Second time dining at Sham's - was a perfect way to treat my friends on one of their last nights visiting KL. The food, hosting and all round experience did not disappoint. Highly recommended!
The food was excellent with ample portions as it was more than I could eat. The side dishes that came with the thali meal was unique as I had never tasted before despite being an Indian. Enjoyed the spice infused tea which was served prior to the meal and the masala tea at the end of it. The piece de resistance for me was the dessert which was out of this world! Kudos to Chef Shamini!
