Although I was born, raised in one small town in the North of Spain called Leon, I’ve been living in HK for two and a half years. I love the outdoors and spend time hanging out with friends, but the hobby that I devote more time is cooking – I exchange recipes with my mum, but also I usually surf on Internet searching innovative recipes with new flavours. Also my husband loves cooking, so frequently we have to toss up to see who is going to cook and who clean the plates We would love to come and taste our Spanish dishes!
The food was great and was made my two people who truly enjoy cooking. Elena and Jaun are also remarkable hosts that went above and beyond to make their guests feel comfortable and at home. I was with a friend celebrating his birthday and with Elena, Juan and their other guests we felt like we were among old friends. Elena and Juan have a beautiful flat with a wonderful view that along with everything else made the lunch an incredible experience!
What an evening, what an experience! I would highly recommend anyone looking for good food and good company to give "Eat Spain up" a try, you will not be disappointed. Elena and Juan, thank you for such a comfortable and fun evening, you were the perfect host. The dinner was set in a smart modern flat in Wan Chai, very easy to get to and we felt very welcomed as soon as we arrived. We were a party of four and including our host Elena and Juan, made a good number for a dinner party. It was definitely the best Sangria I have ever tasted and Elena will let you in on the secret when you get there. The starters were amazing, simple, refreshing - again the Spanish omelette had a little twist to it that made it the best Spanish omelette I have tasted. The seafood chicken paella was authentic and tasty but not heavy. We all had seconds and we all learned a bit about the Spanish paella that you wouldn't get from going to a restaurant. Elena also made us a Devine chocolate mousse dessert which despite us all being full from our meal, we all had a big chunky piece. Overall, we had a most enjoyable evening with our host. Although we were quite apprehensive at first about entering a stranger's house, we were made comfortable right from the start till the end of the evening. We would definitely like to go again and Elena has promised that there will be more added to the menu next time we come.
It was a highly pleasant experience - authentic Spanish food, made with passion and love; catching up with friends blended with meeting with new people over a lunch party, a very different experience than just dine in a fine restaurant. Elena and Juan are amazing cook, hosts. Mostly, they are great people full of passion for food and life:) you may feel that from their food and the interaction with this most lovely couple. Highly recommend!!!
How can you describe a perfect sunset in the pacific ocean, a breeze of cold air in a hot dessert, the first smile of your child or that first kiss from HER in words? YOU CANT. So ill do my best to put words for something you have to experience yourself (I mean it, go asap!!). I lived all over Spain in the mid 90s. I ate and ate from the poshiest El Bulli to the little grandma-run tasca in La Sierra de Gredos. So I praise myself as someone who knows his Spanish food. For 6 years Ive been constantly disspointed by overcharged "spanish" food in HK. All seemed contrived, adjusted, tailored for palates which chefs ASSUME cant take the real Spanish flavours. I can finally say, my search is no more. If you know spanish food, or if its your are first time trying it, then waste no more time, go to Elenas.Thats the best thing I can say about it: its authentic. And by that, i mean REALLY AMAZING. We did the Tapas feast as I thought would be a good way to test the water. All fantastic. The croquetes melt in your mouth, the Salmorejo is sexy and tingly, papas con mojon feel homey and warm and the Iberico, piquillo and tenderloin gave me a feeling that flirts with sexual. Its all a delight to the senses surrounded by great hosts. Elenas smile is infectious while Juans is calm and giving; the right balance to feel at ease while you go wild devouring such feast. I am about to cancel my CNY trip to Barcelona, and just eat at Elenas in Wan Chai! Say no more!
Elena and Juan are great hosts. They put a lot of effort into making us a delicious Spanish feast and paid great attention to detail. I loved every single dish they put on the table, and the seafood paella was the highlight of the day. Would love to return and have more of the delicious Spanish cooking in an intimate home setting.
Great food from starters to dessert, great company, great environment! Authentic Spanish food by a couple that loves Hong Kong and true to their culture.
The host husband speaks Mandarin fluently!
A great night and recommend it for friends and families!
I couldn't ask for a more incredible host. Given I was a first timer to PlateCulture, I had a lot to look forward to. Elena reached far beyond my expectation. She crafted our meal inclusive of ingredients from Spain. I appreciate her attention to details, and has introduced me to such welcoming and authentic Spanish cuisine. Host and guests were friendly, fun, plus my belly was left happily!
EatSpainup!! If you want to have an authentic Spanish food experience, this is the best option ever. Seafood Paella is one of the best and the signatures dishes Elena chef prepares are always a surprise for the taste. I strongly recommend it.
