About the kitchen


Cuisine Type: Traditional Peranakan or Baba Nyonya cuisines. The Peranakan culture is a dying culture in Malaysia and I am trying my best to preserve it. As an individual who loves cooking, I can cook Peranakan dishes or Malaysian-Chinese cuisines,

On our upcoming events I will be serving meals Peranakan cuisines without any MSG, additives or coloring. Standard meals I will be serving is a 5 course meal: I use quality vegetables and meat.Meals will be served with fragrant white rice and homemade desserts. I can host a minimum of 4 to 16 guests at a time but if there are more than 10 of you, please write to me and see how I can work it out to suit your needs. Please allow 4 days notice as I need time to look for quality fresh ingredients and Peranakan food need time to marinate. Come and enjoy your meal in my humble crib that offers a cozy and homey atmosphere.

    Hi! My name is Ken, born and raised in the Peranakan (Straits-Chinese) family. One of my greatest passions in life is cooking and entertaining guests at my home. I enjoy sharing my culture to others as well as learning about other cultures. Among my other interests includes travelling, landscape photography, movies, music, reading and watching the sunsets. As a host, I can share stories of the Peranakan culture and history of Kuala Lumpur (my hometown) and travelling tips of places I have been to. My philosophy in life is the journey of learning is never ending.

This was our second time visiting Ken's house for dinner. As before the food was very delicious and we enjoyed our evening. There was a wide range of dishes, he portions were very generous, we weren't able to finish everything. The papaya was from his Dad's house. Ken is very passionate about preserving culinary traditions, the recipes he cooks are passed down from his grandma. Hope to return in the future.

My best friend told me that she wanted to try Plate Culture, and after reading some reviews, we have decided to go to Ken's Place. Gladly we had chosen Ken's Place for our very first time experience in Plate Culture. We decided to celebrate our friend's birthday at Ken's Place and Ken is very nice and kind to help us to prepare with our friend's birthday celebration.

Ken is a well-versed Nyonya Chef and the food prepared by him is delicious and suits our taste. He is very passionate about Nyonya dishes and would explained at length of the dishes. The ambiance of Ken's Place is very comfortable and cozy.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Ken's place. Ken's place is highly recommended to those who wants to try the authentic Nyonya dishes. would defintely join again in the future.

It was great to be back in Kens place! It was my second time there and the Nyonya dishes prepared by him were very tasty. There were plenty of dishes, great variety of flavors. I don't often return to a place, and the fact that this is my second round at Ken's Place is a testament to him and his cooking. The food was once again brilliant, as expected, a few different dishes this time which was really great. As with my previous visit, Ken taught me an awful lot about the food we ate, and kept the mood lively, he has a great story telling manner and he can be very funny. He cares about the food he cooks, which is very obvious when you taste it, but also in the way he talks about it, and how careful he is to use authentic ingredients and recipes passed down to him, and make sure there are no additives! Overall fantastic experience!

Chef Ken was an utter delight as a host. He had a wealth of great and entertaining stories, and he made the mood light and fun for everyone.
The food was incredible, with a large variety of dishes to try. The pickled vegetables were especially delicious, but really every dish was packed full of flavour, and there was plenty to go around. I have never tried most of the food that was served which made it especially interesting, and as Ken was very well informed and obviously passionate about the culture behind the cooking, I left feeling like I had really gained something from the experience. Highly recommended, I will definitely be returning to Ken's place for more. Honestly a brilliant evening.

Eating at Kan's place was an adventure, a good one. The food was extraordinary, the currys were made to perfection and the pickled salad was one of the best I have ever eaten. I would say that food was the best that evening but Ken stole the show, he is such a nice guy with plenty of stories to tell. You will never get bored, that is for sure. So if you are still in doubt... don't! You will have a great time. Highly recomended!
