If you've only tried Indonesian food in restaurants or haven't even heard of it before, now is a good chance to experience authentic Indonesian dishes just as we taste them back home.

THE MENU

Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta, and most renowned tourism spot, Bali, are not all there is to the country. As a nation made up of thousands of volcanic islands and home to hundreds of ethnic groups each with its own culinary specialties, your choice of menu is practically endless!

. Nasi Tumpeng is a philosophically rich menu, traditionally meant to mark the special occasions of your life, such as birthdays, graduations, new years and anniversaries. Each part of the Tumpeng holds its own meaning which will be explained by Paola. Due to its complexity we can only cater this menu for a group of 4 people or more.
. The Tropical Degustation Menu will tickle your taste buds with a rotation of sweet, savoury and spicy dishes most sought after throughout Java.
. The Notoboyo Family's Menu is an inherited secret recipes from Paola family's who originated from Central Java.

We plan to bring dishes from other areas in Indonesia in the future so keep checking our page to see what's on!

THE KITCHEN & ROOFTOP

~ Our rooftop has panorama of the harbour, Tsing Yi and Lantau island. If you're lucky you may spot fireworks from Disneyland!
~ Lunch from 12pm to 3pm, dinner is available from 7pm to 11pm. Please give 48 hours booking notice.
~ We have 10 seats in total so unless you book for 8 or more people you may have to share the rooftop with others. The more the merrier, right?
~ Due to its open air nature, our rooftop is only available during dry weather. On wet days we will have the indoor dining.
~ Paola will cook indoor so she may not be available for conversation at all times but she would love to chat after dessert is served. =)
~ All ingredients is organic and ethically sourced locally whenever possible.
~ Feel free to bring your own bottle, there is no corkage fee.

ABOUT ZERO WASTE

~ As we both lead zero waste lifestyle we only provide reusable tablewares and have no rubbish bin in our apartment and rooftop area.
~ All ingredients are bought in bulk, organic, and local whenever possible. All leftovers will be composted and packagings recycled.
~ We kindly request our guests not to bring disposables, or simply bring it back with you once you're done.

  1. Bio

    Paola is born and raised in Indonesia. She gained her cooking skills from years of culinary tourism around the world which she applies in her kitchen, but her love for Indonesian food always prevails. When Paola is not cooking she is either exercising or blogging about her zero waste lifestyle.

    Adam is British-born global nomad. He and Paola met in Jakarta, Indonesia and they moved together to HK one year ago. Adam is an expert in tech business development and currently working in a bank in HK. Adam loves traveling for adventures, polishing his Mandarin skill, and conducting fantastic house parties.

My friends and I were looking for something different to do to celebrate my birthday this year, and stumbled across Adam and Paola's listing on PlateCulture. it sounded perfect for a group who had varied dietary restrictions (one vegetarian, one gluten-/dairy- free) and had been craving Indonesian food. Communication was seamless -- I had made the booking inquiry weeks in advance, and Paola was able to tailor the Nasi Tumpeng (Birthday Menu) for our needs. When we got there, we were shown upstairs to the private rooftop that they'd set up for us. There was a Bluetooth speaker so we could play our own music, and we were welcome to bring our own alcoholic beverages, which Adam and Paola kept cool for us downstairs. Other than using the bathroom (in their apartment downstairs), it felt like we had our own private venue, and were able to relax and unwind for the duration of our meal. Paola brought up the dishes as they were ready and explained the background behind the meal, as well as the ingredients, and some traditions that came with each of the dishes. A truly authentic dining experience, and I would be happy to recommend them to anyone who enjoys good food! Will be back!

We were a bench of 6 friends and wanted to try a veggie and 0 waste experience. More than that the rooftop was very comfortable with a beautiful view. The table is well decorated with candles and you can add your music. The best of it is the indo dishes. There were all yunmies and nice to discover. Each dish was very different and tasty and felt so fresh. It was not so spicy as the chilly was on a separate plate. As well you very feel you are at the restaurant as you dont see Paola except when she was bringing dishes and explained to us each meal. Great deal to try ;) thank you Paola.

Paola made a very welcoming dinner at her place as the weather was not so good unfortunately so we couldn't have the dinner on the rooftop. She paid attention to the details and asked if we preferred our drinks to be hot/cold as the weather was cold. Music was great, everything beautifully presented. Great experience :) Thanks Paola!

I organized diner at Paola's for my friend's birthday and all of us really enjoyed it!! Food was great (food koma indeed!), view was great and we had a really relaxing time on the rooftop. We felt that this was not just eating experience but also 'cultural exploration' as Paola was really kind to tell us more about origins of what she was preparing.

We had a lovely dinner up on the roof for a party of 9.
Paula and Adam are lovely people and we had a really good chat with them (til far too late the following morning!) after dinner.

We had the Jakarta street food menu - apparently all the things Indonesians crave when they go home! It was vary tasty, and the desert was interesting (in a good way!).

Paula said later that a lot of people choose the family menu, so would maybe try that next time. She was really responsive, and said if we had anyone with dietary issues next time we could tweak the menu.

It's great that it's BYO no corkage charge, which is a really nice idea and made it feel like a dinner party.

A minor comment is that it would have been nice to perhaps have 1 more course, and it was a little pricey, but it a nice spot.

On the whole a very nice dinner party on the roof 😋

The food was amazing and very authentic, we did not expect that the rooftop would have such an amazing view looking over the waters of Kennedy Town. Hostess was very welcoming and friendly and joined us for a chat at the end of the meal which was nice. Highly recommend.

If you have had limited or no exposure to Indonesian food, I highly recommend that you come and try Paola's menu. Paola serves her food for her guest on their rooftop which has stunning views of Kennedy Town.

The venue itself was a small rooftop area with an amazing sea view, perfect for small private gatherings. The food itself was authentic home recipes from Paola's own home and was a nice well-balanced meal. A word of caution the dishes that pack a punch does come spicy! Thank you Paola for a great evening!
